WWII Across the Atlantic

1.Who was the Supreme Commander in Europe, and was he succesful?
the Supreme Commander in Europe was Dwight D. Eisenhower he was succesful because he recieved an unconditional surrender from the Third Reich

2.What was the signifigance of D-Day?
it was the first day of the allied invasion of Europe which they needed to do to defeat the Nazis

3.Was General Patton an effective leader?
General Patton was an effective leader because he was able to liberate France after 4 years of Nazi occupation

4.Why was the Battle of the Bulge significant?
This battle was important because it was Hitlers last chance of getting a victory in the war

Coping with the war at home

1.      What was the OPA, and what was their job?
it was an agency created to fight inflation of prices. the OPA was very effective

2.      What was the purpose of the OSRD?
The purpose was to bring scientists into the war to make new technologies and new inventions for the war effort.

3.      In what ways did Americans sacrifice during WWII?
some of the ways was they had to live on rations of meat and other foods, gasoline, clothes and other things.

4.      How similar or different were your sacrifices during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars?
my sacrifices were very different because i did not have to sacrifice anything like they did during WWII

U.S. Gets ready for the fight

1.Who was A. Philip Randolph and why did he and Pressident Roosevelt meet?
he was the founder of the Brotherhood of sleeping car porters. They met to discuss the equality of African-Americans to work and fight for their country.

2.Who were the WAAC's and why were they important to the war effort?
They were the Womens Auxiliary Army Corps. They worked as nurses, ambulance drivers, radio operators, electricians, and pilots.

3.How well did African-Americans do during WWII?
At first they did not have that many rights but after they were able to fight with the army they could work in many places they use to not be able to work in.

U.S. Inches towards WWII

1.What was lend-lease, and what countries did it benefit?
the lend-lease was a policy that would allow the U.S. to lend or rent military supplies to Britain and the Soviet Union.

2.What did Roosevelt call German U-boats?
Roosevelt called them Rattlesnakes of the Atlantic

3.How would you describe Roosevelt's opinion of war?
His opinion was that they should be involved in some part because they supported Britain and the Soviet Union with weapons.

2.      What did Winston Churchill say about the peace agreed upon in the Munich Agreement?
Winston Churchill said this was not really peace it was just the begining for what was going to come next they were just appeasing hitler. 


3.      What is Blitzkrieg, and what’s the purpose?
the Blitzkrieg was a lightning war. it used new military technology such as fast tanks and more powerful aircrafts. the puurpose was to take the enemy by surprise and then quickly crush all opposition with overwhelming force

1.      What treaty did Hitler hate? Why?
Hitler hated the Treaty of Versailles it blamed Germany for the war and made them pay the war the debts.

spain: Francisco Franco
Germany: Adolf Hitler
Soviet Union: Joseph Stalin
Italy: Benito Mussollini
Japan: Hideki Tojo


3.      Explain similarities and differences amongst the dictators.
similar: they all were dictators in complete control, they all thought similarly

differences some did not like communism other thought thaat was the best way to be a dictator

4.      What was the U.S. thinking as several wars were breaking out?
they did not want to join into these wars unless they were brrought into the war.
